Reliance Industries Announces 1:1 Bonus Share Issue; Record Date Expected in October – Here’s What Past Trends Show

Sep 23, 2024

New Delhi: Reliance Industries, led by Mukesh Ambani, has approved a 1:1 bonus share issue, calling it an “early Diwali gift” for its shareholders. This announcement was first made during the company’s 47th annual general meeting held in late August.

In a filing to the stock exchanges, Reliance stated, “The Board of Directors of Reliance Industries Limited has approved the issue of bonus shares in a 1:1 ratio. For every fully paid-up share worth Rs 10, shareholders will receive one additional share of the same value. The record date will be announced soon.”

Though the exact record date is yet to be confirmed, past patterns suggest that it may be set for October. Reliance Industries has previously issued bonus shares several times – in 1980, 1983, 1997, 2009, and 2017.

Looking at past trends, the gap between the bonus announcement and the record date has typically been between 40 to 50 days. Here’s a glimpse of past record dates:

  • In 2017, the announcement was made on July 21, with a record date of September 9.
  • In 2009, the announcement came on October 7, with a record date of November 27.
  • In 1997, the announcement was on September 13, with a record date of November 29.

Given these trends, the record date for the latest bonus issue could likely fall after October 20. This announcement is part of the company’s largest-ever bonus issue in the history of the Indian stock market.
